Other Gases: The Politics of Methane and Short-Lived Climate Pollutants
February 22, 2022
Most climate policy scholarship examines carbon dioxide and overlooks the roles of methane, HFCs, and other gases that have short-but-intensive climate impacts after their release into the atmosphere. This talk will explore the politics surrounding the mitigation of these gases and whether their near-term impacts lead to different political outcomes than carbon. In particular, it will consider the issue of reducing methane emissions from oil and gas production in the US, Canada, Mexico, and the European Union.
